principal residential and commercial part. Thomondgate and Lansdowne suburbs are on the Clare
side of the Shannon. in the foreground of this view can be seen River Abbey crossed by O'Dwyer
bridge, and the Corbally road to Killaloe - St. Mary's Cathedral in line with Sarsfield Bridge

Vikings in the ninth century made their settlement at Limerick, it's history has been one of
continued growth interrupted by frequent struggles for possession. It is today a prosperous
city with a population well in eccess of 50,000 (the forth largest in Ireland) and many
thriving industries. To the left in this view is the great River Shannon crossed by Sarsfield
Bridge, and above the Curragour Falls the Thomond Bridge, while the centre shows the People's
Park and the commercial district. In this foreground is The Barracks and Prospect Hill to the
